Welcome to Superdisc Mastering

What is Mastering?
Mastering is the final editing and processing to get the mix to sound the best in the final format that will be used for release (CD, MP3, DVD, etc.).  Mastering is a creative application of technology, not just technical and not just creative. Since the "best" is subjective, the final result will vary from engineer to engineer.

What is Good Mastering?
Good mastering is the product of experience and concern.  The good mastering enginner knows the technology, knows music, knows techniques and has experience applying these areas of knowledge with the desire to do a great job on the particular project at hand.

Today, most mastering is done in the digital format, for release in a digital media.  A good mastering engineer will have good softwear and hardware to use in mastering.  Having said this, which particular software or hardware used is not anywhere near as important as how it is used. The most important "tool" the mastering engineer has is the engineer's ears.

There is no one technique, no one piece of gear, and no one formula for mastering, at least not for good mastering.

Superdisc Mastering
The mastering done here is done by me, Bob "Superdisc" Dennis. I love mastering and always have since I made my first master in 1963, for Motown Records. The first thing that I do for a project is to listen carefully to the mixes.  I want to understand the balances and the performances that the mixing engineerr, the artist and the producer were trying to achieve.  This is what I want to enhance without losing it in the mastering process.

I specialize in the mastering of “socially responsible” music that doesn’t promote sex, drugs and violence. Because of this I will need to accept the job before I can start the project.  You can contact me to via the contact links below for submission procedures.
